A pipefitter is a skilled tradesperson who installs, maintains, and repairs piping systems in various industries such as construction and manufacturing.
Their main responsibility is to ensure that the piping systems are installed and functioning properly, safely and efficiently.
The job duties of a pipefitter include:
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics and technical drawings to determine the layout of the piping system
- Measuring and cutting pipes to the correct size and shape
- Assembling and fitting pipes and pipe fittings together
- Welding, soldering, and brazing to join pipes together
- Installing and maintaining valves, flanges, and other piping components
- Troubleshooting and making repairs as necessary
- Keeping accurate records of materials used and time spent on each project
